Now Playing: Who'm I Gonna Roll With

RICHARD HOLBROOK

Class of 1974-1977.
Hi CSTF, I performed for four summers with The Clarkstown Summer Theatre Festival from 1974 to 1977. I was Freddy in the 1977 Clarkstown Summer Theatre Festival production of My Fair Lady. It was a glorious production and I have wonderful memories not only of the shows but also of the terrific people I came into contact with during those four terrific summers. I worked with such marvelous professionals as Eugene and Judy Gurlitz, Harley Streiff, Carol Ross, Juanita James, Lucille Weinger, Casper and Shirley Anne Roos, and Jeremy Broun - top-notch people all the way. All those wonderful people provided a valuable training ground to help me and my classmates learn the craft and discipline of acting and singing and to learn to respect that craft. I will always treasure those people because they helped make me the singer and performer I am today.

For the past several years , I have been living in New York City and singing in cabaret shows throughout Manhattan. My CD, Richard Holbrook Steps Out, was released in 2004 and is still selling quite well, thank you.

As Stephen Sondheim wrote, "I'm Still Here". So feel free to contact me.  Looking forward to seeing you all in August.

 Take care,
 Richard Holbrook

DAVID FRIED

Class of 1997.  CSTF Alumni and Legislator David Fried was elected to the Rockland County Legislature on November 4, 2003 at the age of 24.  He is one of the youngest County Legislators to serve in the history of New York State.

Legislator Fried represents Legislative District 13, covering the Village of Spring Valley in the Town of Ramapo.  His district is one of the most economically, religiously, culturally, and socially diverse communities in the region.  This is what makes District 13 the unique and special place that it is.  It is a cross section of our nation right here at home in Rockland County.

Although born in Anaheim, California, Legislator Fried has lived in Rockland County since he was ten weeks old.  He is a graduate of Spring Valley High School and he and his family continue to live here.  His parents, Beverly and Sandy, own and operate an automotive repair shop in Spring Valley and his younger brother, Aaron, is finishing classes at RCC and is a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver.

Outside of his legislative duties, Legislator Fried is a student at the world-renowned Cardozo School of Law in New York City.  He has chosen to concentrate his studies on Civil Rights and Constitutional Law.  He is a member of JAMCCAR, the Spring Valley NAACP, the Rockland Negro Scholarship Fund, the Rockland Children’s Advocacy Network, the League of Women Voters, and is a board member of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County.

Prior to serving in the Legislature, Legislator Fried received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Psychology at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. He spent three years as an advance aide to President Clinton, the First Lady, and Vice President Gore.  In this capacity, Legislator Fried traveled on behalf of the White House to many U.S. states and foreign nations.  He was also the Director of Intergovernmental Relations for the Town of Ramapo and Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s district representative in her Rockland County office.

Legislator Fried believes in community-centered leadership.  He has committed his service in the County Legislature to representing all of the residents of District 13 and Rockland County.  He is an advocate for children, families, and entrepreneurs.  He focuses his legislative agenda on providing opportunity to the community, increasing our collective quality of life, and decreasing costs of living.

Legislator Fried’s first initiative as County Legislator was the creation of the District 13 Community Awareness Task Force.  This council works with the Legislator on numerous public policy fronts and consists of a diverse group of community leaders and citizens.

The Legislator invites citizens to work with him and encourages families to participate in government and the legislative process.  His door is open to all!

ANNETTE CORTES

Class of 1994-1995.
Wow!  So glad to see that CSTF is continuing to enhance the lives of so many young people.  I was in Oklahoma in 1994 and played Adelaide in Guys N Dolls in '95.  I had such a great time at CSTF and have continued my theater career.  After I left summer theater I headed off to Marymount Manhattan College where I receive a BFA in Acting with a minor in musical theatre in 2000.

After graduation I appeared in several off-Broadway productions including the off-Broadway modern-day adaptation of "Pirates of Penzance" aboard the Peking at Southstreet Seaport.  I also did a bit of touring.

While touring with different children's theatres I decided that I loved working with children and bringing theatre to the classroom.  So in September of 2003 I began my studies to receive an MA in Educational Theatre at New York University.

In addition to school, I also manage and am the lead singer of a classic Motown band called BLUE VELVET (www.bluevelvetmotown.com), which performs all over Rockland and the tri-state area at bars, lounges, outdoor events and parties.

I hope to be an artist in residence when I graduate and would love to implement some workshops at CSTF...my old stomping grounds!

Keep up the great work!
Annette Cortes

ALAN KIRSCHENBAUM

Alan (left) with his dad Freddie Roman

Class of 1977-1979.  CSTF alumni Alan Kirschenbaum is the son of Comedian and CSTF honorary trustee Freddie Roman. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania  with a degree in marketing, Kirschenbaum shunned the high stakes of the business world for the paramutuel stakes of the Meadowlands Racetrack in northern New Jersey. "I had horses when I was at Penn," Kirschenbaum says, "so when I left Penn I went to work doing the only thing I wanted to do, which was train standard bred race horses.

That career had lasted three years when Kirschenbaum, tired of the fact that his horses were eating better than he was, decided it was time to try something else. "I love sitcoms, and I was always sort of thought of as a funny guy," he says, "so you gravitate towards what you're good at." He moved to Los Angeles and got a job writing at Dear John and moved from there to Anything But Love to Baby Talk to the short-lived Man of the Family. "That show," he says, "lasted seven episodes -- which was probably about six too many."

Kirschenbaum's biggest thrill in television came when Down the Shore, a show he created, was picked up by Fox for the summer of 1992. "When I wrote the pilot for Down the Shore we had a lot of trouble getting it shot. But HBO, the studio I was involved with at the time, convinced Fox to let us do a live presentation of it for them -- like a play. We didn't film it. They couldn't test it. They couldn't do research on it. They couldn't do all the things that a network usually does. They just had to watch it and decide from watching it. There was a tremendous amount of pressure. You couldn't fix it in post-production. You couldn't produce the hell out of it in order to hide the weaknesses. And all the executives, including Barry Diller -- who at that time ran Fox -- came down and watched it. And it went great, and they picked it up. That was my best day in show business."

Following three years as executive producer of Coach, with his CSTF fellow alumni and friend Philip Rosenthal, Kirschenbaum and producer buddy Greg Garcia sold their pilot "Yes Dear" to CBS.

  PHILIP ROSENTHAL

Class of 1977-1979.  Phil is the Creator and Executive Producer of "Everybody Loves Raymond". Putting a new spin on the president's talents
By Peter Johnson, USA TODAY
Phil Rosenthal was asking this question Monday: "If you tell the most powerful man in the world what to do and he does it, does that make you the most powerful man in the world?" Rosenthal, creator and producer of CBS' Everybody Loves Raymond, had reason to ask: He directed President Clinton's now-famous video that spoofs his waning days in the White House. Networks have been rerunning the video since Saturday's White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where Clinton got a standing ovation. On Monday, MSNBC was announcing times it would run the entire video.
"The phone has been ringing off the hook," Rosenthal said as a crew from Access Hollywood waited to talk to him. He also appeared on CNN's Talkback Live. Clinton The video - in which Clinton washes the presidential limo, rides a bike through a hallway and watches clothes dry - took 90 minutes to shoot over three sessions last week. The final shoot was just hours before Saturday's dinner.
Rosenthal says Clinton is a natural actor. In the laundry scene, "I just told him to watch the clothes spin around in the dryer. He came up with the eyes rolling and the head moving, and he did it expertly. He is, like, scarily good. I gave him my card and said, 'I'm always looking for actors on the show.'" Rosenthal got the gig, which he did free ("I did it for my country"), after being called by high school pal Mark Katz, who writes gags for Clinton.
As for his new status, Rosenthal says he put the power question to his wife, Monica. Her response? "She won't buy it."
