Clarkstown Summer Theatre Overview

The Summer Theatre Festival of Clarkstown  (CSTF)

Clarkstown Summer Theatre's principal goal is to teach high school teenagers the finer points of musical theatre, entertaing the community through six performances and provide service to Rockland County through such programs as "People To People."

Each registrant has an opportunity under the direction of the paid professional staff to learn different phases of theatre set construction, lighting, sound, acting, singing, choreography, and orchestration. Additional professionals have been hired to conduct workshops so that the students will be encouraged to fine tune their theatrical skills.

CSTF offers each student a variety of growth experiences but the benefits of the progam are not limited to the technical aspects of performing or building sets. Students are enriched by the new friendships they make, the insights they gain about themselves and the confidence they develop in tackling a new experience.

Funding for this program is made possible through student registration, fundraising , playbill ads, tickets and grants.

The program is organized by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of both adults and students. The adult members are parents who became interested and involved when their children participated in the program. Others have not had children in the program but were interested in the children of our community, and the performing arts as an outlet for young peoples energies.

Students are active in collecting food items for "People To People." As a representative of Summer Theatre they go out into the community to receive donations of non perishable food. This experience is rewarding for both the students and adults involved.

Clarkstown Summer Theatre also encourages physically and emotionally challenged adults to come see the shows. This is done by offering group discount tickets.
